Hi Tom, Here is a picture of an easy to build carb sync tool. Overall I think gauges work so much better than the electronic setups because with gauges you can diagnose carb. We had a similar problem with one of the trikes in our hangar. The choke was not all the way off on one of the carbs. This causes rich in low rpm and lean in high. You may fix it with new choke springs or choke cable adjustment. I have also heard that there is commonly a tight fit of the choke shaft that needs a little lite sanding or reaming of the sleeve or bushing. Normally, once you get the rpms to increase off of a balanced idle at the same time for both carbs, the additional adjustment will be very minor. Also I had a very difficult time keeping my engine balanced until someone showed me to balance the floats in the car b bowls. Recently I had roughness when decreasing throttle on base. This turned out to be friction in the curved cable sleeve at the carb.
